Dr. Ioannis Tomkos is currently Professor of Optical Communications at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, Greece and his research is focusing on 6G mobile networks and datacenter networks. In the past he held various academic and managerial positions, of increasing responsibility, at companies and academic institutions around the world (e.g. USA, Spain, France).
Over the past 25 years, he has managed teams that participated in industry R&D projects and in a record number of EU-funded industry-academia collaborative projects (over 30 in total; 14 just in FP7 and 3 in 6G-SNS) with a consortium-wide leading role (including being Technical Manager of 12 major projects with a total budget of over 60M€). For his research group, he has raised about 12M€ in funding, all as Principal Investigator (PI) of his institution. His research activities resulted in over 650 co-authored scientific archival articles, with over 425 entries at IEEE Xplore. His published work has received over 14.000 citations (h-factor=55). He is included in the "Top H-Index" list of scientists working in the fields of "Computer Science and Electronics" (https://lnkd.in/gYwzYY4) & has received about 200.000 reads at ResearchGate. For his scientific achievements and as a recognition of the broad impact of his work, he is among the few researchers in the world who have been elected as Fellows of 3 different professional societies; namely the Institute of Engineering and Technology-IET (2010), the Optical Society of America-OSA (2012) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers-IEEE (2018).
