Since February 2024, Dr. Abdul Rahim has been managing a network of over 70 organizations at PhotonDelta, a groundbreaking €1.2 billion public-private partnership initiative designed to accelerate the growth of integrated photonics. In his role, he plays a pivotal part in maintaining a seamless supply chain for integrated photonics across the ecosystem, fostering effective collaboration among partners, and driving the business and technological advancement of more than 30 original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) within the field. As a passionate advocate for integrated photonics, Dr. Rahim actively tracks and analyzes emerging global technology trends, positioning the ecosystem for future innovations. He is a key contributor to a whitepaper that provides recommendations for the future research and innovation agenda for integrated photonics in Europe.
Dr. Rahim earned his degree in innovation management and entrepreneurship from HEC Paris and a PhD in silicon photonics for optical communication from TU Berlin.
His professional background includes research positions at Larid Technologies in Sweden, the Leibniz Institute for High-Performance Microelectronics (IHP) in Germany, the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) in Canada, and the Photonic Research Group at Ghent University-imec in Belgium. From 2015 to 2024, he led ePIXfab, the European silicon photonics alliance, successfully transforming it into a sustainable open alliance that promotes the advancement and application of silicon photonics science and technology.
Since 2020, Dr. Rahim has taken on the role of co-leader for the silicon photonics chapter of the Integrated Photonics Systems Roadmap - International, contributing to strategic developments in the field.
He has been selected by Electro Optics as one of the Photonics100 for the year 2024.
